The Problem:
Human trafficking continuously affects communities throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania, and happens in plain sight. The lack of consistent, specialized services means that first points of contact for survivors, like crisis programs, youth shelters, advocacy centers, or outreach workers, often have to do a great deal with very limited tools. Furthermore, there remain gaps in initiatives which increase public knowledge of the crime. Limited public education can make it more difficult for community members to recognize red flags and know how to respond when they face a potential trafficking situation, allowing trafficking to persist.
CC Compassion’s Response:
CC Compassion seeks to bridge these gaps through distribution of care packages and volunteer support for survivor-serving organizations. This strengthens the immediate, tangible support these organizations can provide, rather than duplicating their services. CCC also strives to build a strong local anti-trafficking network by hosting events and developing accessible educational materials which increase community awareness. These efforts will help community members better understand what human trafficking is, recognize potential indicators, discover how individuals may become vulnerable, and learn how to respond appropriately and connect with resources. By increasing public knowledge, CCC hopes to strengthen prevention efforts while encouraging a more informed and supportive community response.
